Beschreibung:

G. P. Deshpande is a Marxist scholar, an academic, and a widely produced and translated playwright. Every one of his plays has been put on stage by major directors. His plays have a reputation for being dense in ideas, discussion and debate. This cycle of three plays-A Man in Dark Times, Past One O?Clock, A Passage to Darkness-deals with the impact on human beings, and their relationships, of the collapse of the Communist ideal, and the vacuum left by the loss of belief. The volume contains, in addition to the playscripts, a long interview with the playwright, and introductory essays by both the author and theatre critic Samik Bandyopadhyay. Printed Pages: 175. Buchbeschreibung GRIN Publishing Jun 2014, 2014. Taschenbuch. Buchzustand: Neu. 211x149x12 mm. Neuware - Bachelor Thesis from the year 2013 in the subject Politics - Miscellaneous, grade: 2:1 68%, University of Lincoln, course: Religion and Politics, language: English, abstract: This research paper aimed to find out the extent to which faith plays a part in the political decision making of Christian MPs. The MPs who were used in this study were from Christians in Parliament All-Party Group. The desire to investigate this topic derives from a deep personal interest in politics, combined with a sense of intrigue towards the influence of faith. Interviews took place with seven MPs, in order to question them about the role of their Christian faith as they work within the political arena. These interviews took place in London and consisted of nine questions, dealing with three concise topics; the Christians in Parliament group, personal influences of faith and the future of religion and politics. Amongst a great deal of interesting data, there were a number of key themes that can be drawn from this research. Christian MPs have a unique pressure upon them which derives from their faith and having to balance this in their job as a politician. In response to this pressure, this paper has found that MPs are determined in their endeavours to keep the Christian faith embedded in British society. Also, this paper has highlighted the great extent to which faith impacts individual MPs decision making. Overall, this research has furthered understanding of the impact of faith on Christian MPs and the extent to which this affects their decision making processes. It has enabled us to recognise the constant conflict faced by Christian MPs. This research has also raised awareness of the challenges for Christian members, whilst highlighting the debate regarding the extent to which religion continues to play a part in politician's decision making. As well providing a compelling insight, this work is a platform for deeper research into this area of study. 88 pp. Englisch. Artikel-Nr. 9783656666790

Buchbeschreibung Buchzustand: Antiquarian. Manchester University Press, Manchester, 1955. XI,157p. Cloth wrps. Spine gilt titled. With signature from Prof. W.G. Arnott on free endpaper. 'In the first part of this book Dr. Zuntz discusses the interpretation of the 'Supplices' and 'Heraclidae', their relation to fifth-century history, and the date of their first production. He makes it clear that in calling these plays political he does not mean that they should be interpreted as propaganda, but that 'problems of human fellowship have become the material for artistic creation.' Again, the 'Supplices is 'not an allegory of current affairs but the self-contained reshaping of an Attic myth.' (.) He is essentially right, I think, in his opposition to those scholars, such as E. Delebeque, who regard the introduction of propagandist allusions as a major preoccupation of Euripides, and he is often successful in showing that passages suspected of being introduced merely for the sake of an allusion are in fact fully justified on purely dramatic grounds. (.) So, too, in dating the plays Zuntz prefers not to rely on specific allusions but rather to consider the general purport of each play. (.). The point of view from which Zuntz approaches the interpretation of these plays is that the world of Euripides, as contrasted with that of of Aeschylus and Sophocles, has been abandoned by the gods, and that in all his plays Euripides is searching for an answer to the question: 'how is man to live in a godless world?' (P.T. STEVENS in The Classical Review (New Series), 1956, pp.109-10). From the library of the late Prof. W. Geoffrey Arnott. Antiquarian. Artikel-Nr. 27309
