The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press. In its determination to preserve the century of revolution, Gale initiated a revolution of its own: digitization of epic proportions to preserve these invaluable works in the largest archive of its kind. Now for the first time these high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries, undergraduate students, and independent scholars.
Delve into what it was like to live during the eighteenth century by reading the first-hand accounts of everyday people, including city dwellers and farmers, businessmen and bankers, artisans and merchants, artists and their patrons, politicians and their constituents. Original texts make the American, French, and Industrial revolutions vividly contemporary.

8vo, pp. [ii], iv, 175; dampstaining at foot at beginning and end, uncut, in contemporary boards, paper spine, upper cover detached. First edition, published the year after Charles Pigott's death by the radical publisher Daniel Isaac Eaton, who was, later the same year, to become Thomas Paine's London publisher, with his issue of the second part of The Age of Reason. A flavour of Charles Pigott's cynical attitude to the London politicians can be gained from a few sequential definitions: 'To jabber, to talk idly, to prate without thinking, to chatter; like young Jenkinson, Mr. Canning, Tom Steel and others. Jacobin, every man who dares to object to any part of the conduct of administration; every man who disapproves of the present war with France; and every man who wishes for a parliamentary reform and an equal representation of the people. Ice, a cold substance of which the hearts of most great men are composed' (p. 61). Artikel-Nr. 27525
