High in the misty Soutpansberg mountains of South Africa, where ancient trees stretch toward the clouds and rivers wind quietly through the forest, a curious little kitten named Pokoloksi is about to learn the biggest lesson of her life.
Pokoloksi is a small grey-and-white kitten with bright green eyes and a heart full of questions. She loves her mother, her warm and cozy home, and the gentle little girl named Tayla who strokes her fur and tucks her in each night. But Pokoloksi has one tiny weakness: she simply cannot resist an adventure. So when a little mouse darts past her paws, she chases it deep into the tall trees... and suddenly the forest feels enormous, the daylight is fading, and home is nowhere to be found.
Lost, frightened, and far from her mother, Pokoloksi soon discovers she is not alone. She meets Nibble Mouse, a shy and gentle new friend who is lost too, and together the unlikely pair set out to find their way home. Their journey leads them to kindness in the most unexpected places: a warm-hearted family of bullfrogs beside a shimmering pond, and, high on the misty mountain, a family of leopards who turn out to be far less frightening than they first appear. All the while, back home, Tayla and Pokoloksi's mother never stop searching, calling her name through the trees.
Along the way, Pokoloksi learns that courage is not about never being afraid, but about being brave even when you are. She learns that the very creatures we fear can become the friends we need most, and that no matter how far we wander, love will always help us find our way home.
Pokoloksi and Nibble Mouse is a warm, gentle bedtime story and beautifully illustrated children's chapter book, written to be shared aloud, one cozy chapter at a time. Set against the wild beauty of the African bushveld, it carries young readers on an unforgettable adventure of friendship and bravery while quietly nurturing the values that matter most: kindness, courage, listening, loyalty, and the comforting certainty of coming home. It is the kind of story that calms busy little minds at the end of the day, sparks wonder about animals and the natural world, and leaves children feeling safe, brave, and loved as they drift off to sleep.
