Chapter One
Americans Wept Today, Americans Prayed Today
Americans wept today and Americans prayed today.
Americans wept because terrorists attacked us.
Not out of darkness did they come, but in the light of day.
Neither shells, nor bombs, nor missiles did they use.
Instead, they used our own planes against us
In an attempt to confuse. They flew our planes
Into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center
And into the Pentagon. They wanted to show us
That ours wasn't their way. First came the shock
And disbelief, then came the tears and prayers,
Tears and prayers for the people in the Word Trade Center
And the Pentagon, for the brave fire fighters, police,
And their families, tears and prayers for the passengers
And crew members on our planes, tears and prayers
For the heroes who fought the terrorists in the plane flying
Over Pennsylvania. Americans prayed that our president
And government officials would rise to the occasion.
Old Glory wept today, flying at half-mast.
Americans will rise up, just like our flag always has.
We will rise up and fight for our freedom,
Like all the generations of the past.
The cross rising out of the rubble reminded us
That good will triumph over evil that God has not forsaken us.
He hears our prayers and will comfort us.
The U S of A
The U S of A, the U S of A,
From ocean to ocean, great are they.
U is united.
S is for states.
A is for America
The red, white, and blue.
Blue is for the valor of our armed forces,
Fighting for our liberty, and others, around the world.
Red is the blood, that's been shed for our freedom.
White are the crosses, standing row on row.
Crosses as white as new fallen snow.
We shall never forget them, for they gave their all,
Just to make sure, freedom didn't fall.
The U S of A, the U S of A,
From ocean to ocean, great are they.
Settled by people from many lands.
They brought their talents and helping hands.
They brought cultures, from near and far,
And melded them together, to make this, unique land.
The U S of A, the U S of A,
The United States of America,
United we stand, behind the red, the white, and blue.
The U S of A, the U S of A,
From ocean to ocean, great are they.
We're Hanging Yellow Ribbons Once Again
We're hanging yellow ribbons once again.
In honor of our servicemen and women.
In war and peace they have answered our countries call.
On missions of mercy and in fierce battles,
They have fought and given their all.
From Lexington and Concord, to the Battle of Yorktown,
The colonial soldiers fought to form our nation.
Yes, they answered our nations call.
From Gettysburg and Shiloh, to Appomattox Courthouse,
They fought to unite our nation and they gave their all.
In the battles of Belleau Woods and Argonne Forest,
They shed their blood in a war to end all wars, but it didn't.
Once again they gave their all.
Many times since then our young people
have answered their nations call.
They have fought in the desert of North Africa,
the towns and farmlands of Europe,
And the jungles of the Pacific Islands, giving their all.
They have fought in Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm and other places.
On beaches, in air and on the sea, they have given their lives
To defeat dictators and to preserve freedom.
Every time they have given their all.
Yes, we're hanging yellow ribbons once again.
In honor of our servicemen and women.
In war and peace they have answered our countries call
And given their all.
The Blue and Gold Star Street
There's a street in America that's unique, because they call it
"The Blue and Gold Star Street."
The Street is unique because each house has a flag with a blue
Or gold star in its window.
A blue star means a family member is serving in the armed forces.
A gold star means a family member has been killed in action.
There's a house with a blue star flag in its window.
Inside sits a mother holding a picture of a handsome
Young man in uniform.
Dear Lord, she prays, "Keep my son safe and bring him home to me.
You know how much I love him."
In the window of another house, hangs a flag with two stars on it.
One gold and the other is blue.
Inside a mother holds two pictures, one of her daughter
The other of her son.
Tears roll down her cheeks and drop onto her daughter's picture.
She drops to her knees as she weeps.
She prays, "Dear Lord, thank you for giving me a daughter and for
The years I had with her."
She looks at her sons picture as she prays, "Dear Lord, keep my son
Safe and bring him home to me.
I don't think I could go on if I lost him too."
And so it goes, as you walk down, The Blue and Gold Star Street.
Each house has its own story of a brave young man or woman
Who is serving or has served our country.
Some are represented by blue stars, others by gold ones.
There's a street in America, that's unique because they call it,
"The Blue and Gold Star Street."
Soldier Boy
When he was a little boy, his mother asked him,
What do you want to be when you grow up?
He said, "I want to be a soldier when I grow up.
When I am a man, I want to do all I can
For our country."
He never played cowboys and Indians or fireman.
Instead, in his imagination, he was a soldier boy.
He lined up toy soldiers in a row and marched
Them off to war.
He led his men against the enemy.
They fought many battles that led to victory.
Now he is a soldier man, in a faraway land.
Fighting for his country and freedom
For every woman and man.
Now the battles are real and he bravely
Leads his men, determined to win.
All he ever wanted to be was a soldier when he grew up.
He never played cowboys and Indians or fireman.
Instead, he lined up toy soldiers and led them to victory.
Now he is a soldier man, in a faraway land.
He's fighting for his country and freedom
For every woman and man.
An American Soldier
He's an American soldier standing tall and proud
With his shoulders back and his head held high.
He's ready to go where duty calls.
He's ready to fight and die.
He's been well trained in the job he has to do
He's ready to fight for me and you.
He'll fight in the desert sands,
On home shores and in far away lands.
He'll fight in jungles, on the sea and in the air.
He's ready to fight anywhere.
He'll fight to preserve freedom
And to liberate people everywhere.
He sacrifices a lot for you and I.
He leaves his family for long periods of time.
When he bids them good-bye,
He doesn't know if he'll see them again.
He's an American soldier standing tall and proud
