This volume, containing 34 papers, examines the complex relationship between population, resources and development. The book will be highly useful for resource managers, researchers, policy makers and development workers. About the Author Professor B. Thakur, Vice-Chancellor of L.N. Mithila University, Darbhanga holds substantive position in the Department of Geography, Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi. He is also the President-Elect of National Association of Geographers, India. His 38 years of experience include interests in resource management, natural hazards and urban development at the Universities of Ranchi, Patna, Waterloo, Akron, Delhi and Mithila. He was a Commonwealth Scholar at the University of Waterloo (Canada) and Fulbright Vising Professor at the University of Akron (USA). He has successfully supervised 13 Ph.D. Theses, 30 M.Phil and 50 M.A. dissertations. He has authored a book on Urban Settlements in Eastern India : Entropy Changes and Pattern Analysis (Concept, 1979) and edited volumes on Geographic and Planning Research Themes for the New Millennium (with Noble, Mukherji and Costa, Vikas, 2000); Recent Advances in Geomorphology, Quaternary Geology and Environmental Geosciences: Indian Case Studies; Felicitation Volume in Honour of Professor V.K. Verma (with S.K. Tandon, Manisha, 2002). Geography in Delhi: Research Themes and Perspectives (Manisha, 2003) and Perspectives in Resource Management in Developing Countries in 14 Volumes (Concept, 2003, in Press) and has published 60 research papers in journals of India and abroad. Professor Thakur has shouldered many responsibilities, such as Secretary General of National Association of Geographers, India; Recorder and President of Earth System Sciences of Indian Science Congress Association; Editor and President of Association for Geographical Studies, Delhi University; and Chairman of the Commission on Natural Hazards and Resource Management of NAGI.
