Briel and seven of his trusted associates were leaving their dying world en route for the planet Earth where it was reported there were women of compassion. Since the women of the planet Atania were cold and harsh in their dealings with others lacking in any compassion, all eight men looked forward to meeting women of kind hearts and tender mercy toward others. All eight men stood well over six feet in height and were in solid physical shape, since they had been the elite security force in their home world. They were aware they would stand out since they towered over the average Earthman in stature. But otherwise they believed they could blend in and discover new lives for themselves in this new world.

He had gathered the ability to be secure in the bright new world he was going to live in. He had cashed in his properties and closed his financial accounts with several financial institutions. His family holdings were dispersed and he drew out his golden metal from its depository. His favorite pet was given away to a friend that wished to remain behind, even after Briel tried to talk him into leaving this horrible dying place. Briel couldn't see himself taking a beloved wolfcat to earth with him. It would be a dead giveaway that he too was different. Since it looked like a wolf, with the body and agility of a cat, earthlings would notice it right away. His friend had said he had lived here and wished to die here and so would Briel's wolfcat. And Briel was quite certain that is exactly what was going to happen in the not too distant future.
Briel talked with seven of his trusted guard from his city. All seven were men he trusted. They had served the government together for over twenty years now. And all of them were over forty years of age. Several of them had lost mates in the last year. None of them had a mate any more. The terribly high temperatures were causing more deaths every day. There had been earthquakes in some areas and disturbing storms all around the globe.
Briel had been alone since meeting the earth woman thirty-nine years earlier. He had planned on returning to her, to share the rest of their years of life together, there on earth. He knew he could pass for an earthman, as long as he was careful. The beginnings of the end of his world were starting to show themselves even then. But then there was the uprising in the government. So Briel had not been able to get away to return to the woman of which he dreamed. He never realized he would end up being `trapped' in the city helping to keep the government afloat and secure. His background in security went all the way back to his youth. He had always wanted to be a security officer. And by the age of twenty summers he started attending the training academy to become just that.
Briel excelled in his classes with his quick mind and his photographic memory. Very few people on his world were so blessed. He attributed it to his genes. His father had planned his birth right down to the level of his intelligence and his ability to consciously decree whether or not his mate would have twins and if they would both be of the same sex. His strength was enhanced before birth and was suppose to be able to be handed down to his children. But he hadn't ever had any children, so that had yet to be a proven ability on his home world.
His father had instituted expanded sensory ability as well as heat throwing ability into the mix as well. Briel had used his ability to throw heat missiles many times to destroy incoming bombs during wartime. No other Atanian had ever gained such ability, making him very valuable to his government. Such experimentation with the unborn was as yet, a mere science. A science that only Briel's father and mother were fully aware of, since he was in charge of such study at the government funded college.
Most of the men who worked under Briel's command had the ability to use the power of their mind in several ways. They could unlatch doors before they approached them. They were able to open any vault or latching device made. They had the ability to `push' into the minds of others and create a command that had to be followed, including sleeping. They were able to tell a person to stop and that person could do no other than what had been commanded. They could tell a person to sleep, and that person would sleep until called to awaken by the same voice that told them to sleep, unless it was over-ridden by someone who was able to give a much more powerful 'push', such as himself. So only the men with such ability were put into Briel's security team, putting them in high demand.
Briel had become a valued commodity in his world and was rewarded appropriately. His home was lavish and filled with servants. He had his pick of female Atanians wishing to become his consort. Whenever he appeared at social functions in the city, he had his pick of beautiful women on his arm. But he refused to consider any such woman as his consort, to the disappointment of many. He remembered the lovely woman on earth he had met many years before, and still dreamed of her. He had impregnated her with his seed and had planned on returning to live with her after that assignment ended. But history on his world did not allow it.
Briel often thought about his son there and wondered what his life was like. He hoped that the babe had survived, along with its mother. He was going to find out, and he was planning on locating her in the hope he would be able to marry her.
Briel was not tempted by any of the attractive females on his planet. Yes, they were lovely to look at, but it was as if their creator had forgotten the most important part. They didn't have emotional tenderness. The lack of compassion in the female nature of all females on the planet saddened Briel, especially after seeing the loveliness of earth women. They were soft and caring. They were feminine as no Atanian woman could be feminine. They had sympathy for others and compassion for those in need. The Atanian women had none of that ability. They did although, have a desire for power over others. They enjoyed owning slaves, which now was an abandoned way of life. It had become too cruel. The females would beat their slaves, almost to death when they punished them, simply because they had the freedom to do so.
Briel could see, without compassion for others, no female would be someone he would tie his life with in this world. It seemed a cruel life even for a mate to one of these power hungry females. He knew of no one that was truly happy in his marriage.
After a marriage ceremony a woman would forget they were considered the equal to their new husband, and begin to attempt to control him as well as all of his slaves, or servants. Since the new law came into being that no one could own another, the employing of servants at a pittance of pay became the new standard.
The life he had endured on Atania was rapidly coming to a close. His mother had passed away many years earlier, to the gratitude of his father. And his father had finally succumb to a rare blood disease only months earlier. He had had to retire from his post at the college a year ago, due to his weakness brought on by his illness. A female biologist, who was well known in the sciences, had replaced his father. Briel had heard many comments on what a cruel taskmaster she had become. It was whispered she was attempting to create a cloning ability to replace what she considered certain weaknesses of the male of their species with new and better males for the future of their planet. Only Briel was quite certain there wasn't to be a future for the planet at all. And he was leaving; taking with him only trusted males that wished to start a new life on earth. A new life where they could intermingle, appearing to be products of that planet as was their desired goal. Thus they could start a new life for themselves, and find a female mate that would be worth everything they were leaving behind.
Briel looked forward to finding the woman that hopefully had successfully carried his child on earth. He wanted to share a life with her that would give him peace and joy. A life that would include caring and sharing between a man and his...
