Lithographed frontispice-plates 'New York Institution for the Blind', Portrait of 'Haelen De Kroyft' with her handwriting facsimile, a halftransparent tissue-guard inbetween; 191 pages. - Publisher's red blind-embossed cloth binding, spine richly gilt decorated and titled; 8vo.(ca. 19 x 12 cm). ~~~ Early edition of this 'Blind-Literature Classic' in the original binding. - Ends of spine and corners slightly to somewhat rubbed; a very good copy. --- A few weeks after her husband Dr. William De Kroyft tragically died by falling out of a carriage on their wedding day(!) Sarah Helen Aldrich, now Helen De Kroyft (1818-1915), suddenly blinded by an eye infection.
