Gateway to India on North Wells Street in Old Town Chicago must have been a hub for creative types, given its proximity to Second City, where many famous comedians got their start.
And what a wonderful coincidence that you met Dr. Constance Ann Fuller PhD and other notable figures like John Candy, Phil Hartman, Chris Farley, and Tina Fey at Gateway to India!
The other restaurant, Gaylord on Clark Street, owned by the late Mr. Kishan Chopra, sounds like it was also a beloved spot. It’s lovely that you have fond memories of Mr. Chopra, who was a good friend of yours.
Fast-forward to today, and it’s astonishing to see that Chicago now has over 500 Indian restaurants! The city’s culinary landscape has certainly evolved, and it’s wonderful that Indian cuisine has become an integral part of Chicago’s food scene.

Mount Everest in Evanston and Devon Avenue’s many Indian restaurants must be familiar haunts for you. And Bombay India in Evanston is conveniently close to your home!
However, I sense a tinge of sadness in your message. Losing someone dear is never easy, and it’s clear that Connie Darling held a special place in your heart. February 28, 2015, must be a difficult anniversary for you.
