Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor
Lisa Saunders is an award-winning writer and TV talk show host living in Mystic, Connecticut, with her husband, Jim, and hound, Doolittle. She is the author of 10 books and is a part-time history interpreter at Mystic Seaport. She is the parent representative of the Congenital Cytomegalovirus Foundation, which raises awareness about maternal testing for first infection during pregnancy, newborn testing, and the need to develop a vaccine. A former licensed day care provider, Lisa didn’t learn about CMV prevention until after her daughter Elizabeth was born with microcephaly (small, damaged brain) in 1989. Her story is told in her light-hearted memoir, Anything But a Dog! The perfect pet for a girl with congenital CMV. Lisa and her work to get Connecticut to pass a CMV bill was featured in Cornell University’s Alumni Magazine (Sept/Oct 2015) and was widely covered in the media such as Fox CT and News 8. Her book, Anything But a Dog! The perfect pet for a girl with CMV (cytomegalovirus), is currently being translated into Japanese for release in Japan in December 2016. To educate entire families on CMV prevention in a fun and memorable way, Lisa published this short story, “Once Upon a Placemat: A Table Setting Tale,” which includes a free teaching tool kit with a video and downloadable placemats for coloring.
