Über diesen Titel

As the youngest child in a large and somewhat eccentric Anglo-Irish family, Cherry Simmonds tells an honest and sometimes tragic story of growing up in Liverpool in the 1950s and '60s. Capturing the despondency and deprivations of post-war England from the back streets of Liverpool, and the subsequent vibrancy and liberation of the swinging sixties—the decade of the Beatles, national strikes, and Liverpool FC winning the FA Cup for the first time—this is an ebullient tale told by a natural storyteller.

About the Author:

Cherry Simmonds was born on Merseyside in 1941, the youngest of nine children. She left school at 15 and worked variously as a Post Office counter clerk, a book-keepping machine operator, garage attendent, wages clerk in a life raft factory, fancy goods shop owner and junk shop owner. She and her husband emigrated to New Zealand in 1970 where they still live. They have three sons (one adopted) and she is mad about animals and auctions. The origins of Nobody in Particular lie in a long letter the author wrote to her brother-in-law following the death of his wife, her beloved sister.

BookLovers of Bath is based in the rural idyll of Peasedown St. John in Somerset (God's Own Country) in the south west of England and actually very nearly in Bath. After 20 years of being “internet only” I have now opened a shop, Fact or Fable, in the premises of our now-closed Post Office. With over 20,000 books in stock and another 5,000 or so in the shop I run an old-fashioned book business with every book listed, graded, picked, packed and posted by my own fair hand… abetted by my Jack Russells who are really, not, helpful.
