Artikelbeschreibung des Verkäufers

Paperback. Previous owners name and date to inside cover. Sunned spine. The original Companion to Shakespeare Studies, edited by Harley Granville-Barker and G. B. Harrison, was published in 1934. it has been reprinted ten time. The editors of this new edition have followed in general the lines laid down by the priginal editors. Omissions and additions reflect changes in emphasis in Shakespeare studies. Eight of the essays in this book are by American scholars, and all have been specially commissioned. The book presents an up-to-date and authoritative introduction to the whole field of Shakespeare studies. It will be invaluable to univeristy students and to those studying for A level English or similar school examinations. Topics covered include: Shakespeare's life, the theatre of his day and the ways in which he used it, the intellectual and social climate of the age and its influence on his, his use of language and music. In addition to the plays, his sonnets and narrative poems are discussed in some detail. There are chapters on the vexed question of the text of his works, and on the performance through the ages of his plays. The two final chapters provide a useful review of Shakespeare criticism. All books referred to in the text and several others are included in the Reading Lists. The Chronological Table shows for year year the main events (politiacl and social), the books published, the plays first produced, and the plays published, including those by Shakespeare's contemporaries. 298 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions ,and all types of Academic Literature.).…
