Über diesen Titel

Grand Ole Opry, here they come--Ellen and her best friend Valery long to be country music singers like the wonderful Marna Marshall, so they decide to write a song and enter Marna's "Rising Star Contest." The prize is an appearance on her TV show! An ordinary summer vacation turns into something special, as they learn to collaborate and to harmonize in friendship as well as on the stage.
From the Hardcover edition.

From School Library Journal:

Grade 4-6AEllen and her friend Valery spend the summer before sixth grade working on their entry for Marna Marshall's First Annual Rising Star Contest for the best country song. Meanwhile, Valery's battles with her brother become so disruptive that her mother sends the siblings off to stay with their father for a few weeks, and Ellen's concern for her older sister increases when Olive's break with her boyfriend causes her to become distant and morose. Ellen tries to bring the two back together but with disastrous results. Finally, the stress of these concerns coupled with Valery's self-absorption and her attempts to dominate their relationship cause a break that threatens their friendship as well as their chances to win the contest. Through the final events of the story, Kuhn offers the healthy suggestion that closed doors often lead to new challenges. In Ellen's character and through her intense friendship with Valery, the author beautifully captures the pysche of prepubescent girls. Their obsession with relationships, unreasoning fears, and tendency to work out overly dramatic scenarios in daydreams are well drawn. Through her handling of both characterization and plot, Kuhn is careful to encourage young girls to strive for goals that will give their lives meaning and purpose.AMaggie McEwen, Coffin Elementary School, Brunswick, ME
