Kate J. Gillmore was a dedicated educator who spent her career supporting and guiding children from all backgrounds. She found her purpose in the students she taught and the relationships she built with them. Her handwritten "MS. K8" on her ID badge was a small, playful detail that made her instantly approachable. She sat crisscross applesauce on the floor, meeting her students at eye level to make it easier to connect. She was the one who could coax a smile from the shyest child, the one who believed every struggling reader had a story worth telling. She believed that every child deserved encouragement, understanding, and a sense of belonging. My Name Is Green reflects these values and was written to promote cooperation, acceptance, and unity among young readers. For Kate, no child stood apart; they were all colors blending to form one world. Her goal was never profit, but connection to help children find belonging, compassion, and hope. Her book is her gift to children, a lesson in unity, self-discovery, and understanding. This book stands as a continuation of her work as an educator and as a lasting reminder of her commitment to helping children learn, grow, and connect with one another.
