Artikelbeschreibung vom Verkäufer

Publication: London, Hodder and Stoughton Limited, 1932 Formatting: 8vo, pp. 320. Condition Report: Very Good. The publisher's original orange cloth remains relatively bright, with sharp black stamped lettering and ruling to the front board and spine. There is minor rubbing and gently bumped corners, alongside light shelf-wear to the spine extremities (head and tail). The binding remains structurally sound, square, and tight. Internally, the text block is generally clean, with some light, expected dust-dulling to the top edge and faint spotting to the fore-edge. The front free endpaper bears a neat ink ownership signature dated '1932' alongside a contemporary gift inscription in blue ink; however, the pages are otherwise free from major blemishes, foxing, or subsequent defacement. A highly presentable and robust example of this early reprint. Catalogue Note: This is the sixth edition of R. Austin Freeman's classic Dr. Thorndyke mystery, published in July 1932 by Hodder and Stoughton Limited. Bound in the publisher's secondary trade cloth typical of their early 1930s reprint series, it presents an affordable yet authentic period format. These early UK reprints, particularly those that have survived without heavy reading wear or structural compromise, are uncommon in tight condition. The contemporary 1932 gift inscription adds a touch of historical provenance to the preliminary leaves. Angelina Frood, a woman desperate to escape the clutches of her drug-addicted husband, seeks refuge in Rochester before mysteriously vanishing into the fog. When the local doctor falls for her and a body is subsequently discovered, the perplexing circumstances demand an unparalleled investigative mind. Enter Dr. John Thorndyke, the esteemed medical jurist, whose forensic brilliance and meticulous logical deduction are put to the ultimate test in this celebrated Golden Age detective mystery.
