Candid Jones-camera-toting, twöfisted ex-dick-never really retired. He swapped the badge for a Leica, but the streets don't care for retirement plans. In these hardboiled pulp tales he snaps the scene, cracks the jaw, and fires the shutter with equal facility, chasing crooked bookies, dirty cops, stolen diamonds and lovers who lie like snakes. From racetrack sabotage and rooftop shootouts to frame-ups that could put an innocent woman in the chair, Candid's sights are always set on the truth-no matter how noisy or deadly the picture gets. This volume collects Richard Sale's mean, witty best: tough-as-nails capers like "The Vanishing Jockey," "Place Your Bets!," "Last Race," and the title piece "Murder on the Film." The final story, "Flash!," is a special treat-a crossover with Sale's other series hero, Daffy Dill, that turns the whole city into a pressroom and a crime scene at once. Perfect for fans of vintage noir, pulp thrillers, and cinematic detectives-this is classic sleuthing shot in high contrast, grainy and relentless.
