Über diesen Titel

Inhaltsangabe:

Featuring more than 25 contributors, this collection of essays sheds light on several aspects of Moroccan society, economy, and culture as well as on the relationship between Morocco and the Netherlands—two countries with 400 years of shared history that alternates between fear and distrust and hope and solidarity. With a focus on the tensions between tradition and modernity, these essays discuss topics such as Moroccan family law; Morocco and the European Union; the Berber struggle; migration and equal citizenship; young Moroccans in the Netherlands; gender education in Morocco; literature, architecture, and language; and identity.

About the Author:

Petra Bos is an Arabist and a linguist. She is also an assistant professor at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, where she lectures on general and applied linguistics, developmental language disorders, and Moroccan Arabic, and the author of Development of Bilingualism: A Study of School-Age Moroccan Children in the Netherlands. Wantje Fritschy is a senior lecturer in economic and social history and a professor of the history of public finance at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam and the author of numerous journal articles on those subjects. They are the cofounders, along with Edien Bartels, of the Moroccan Studies interdisciplinary bachelors program at the Vrije Universiteit.
