Autograph letter signed, two pages (both sides), 5,25 x 8,25 inch, Paris, 14.05.1945, in French, to André Gide (1869-1951, French author and winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1947) - concerning a judicial investigation for alleged collaboration against Henry de Montherlant, written and signed in blue ink "Montherlant", with a central horizontal letter fold, and light creasing - in fine to very fine condition.In parts:"Mon cher André, Pour deux raisons, je vous envoie ces papiers, l un, résumé des faits concrets, l`autre destiné aux `intellectuels`. Je voudrais qu`il y eut une contrepartie au mal que vous entendu sans doute (.) dans votre milieu; et aussi il est question de vous, à la p.25 du grand mémoire. Et je vous redis ici que je disais incidemment dans cette interview à votre propos (.) été interprété avec malveillance par l`interviewer. C`est pourquoi je désirais tant qu`on tint compte des épreuves corrigées, ce qui ne fût pas.Depuis quelques jours, une instruction judiciaire est en cours contre moi, pour prétendue collaboration. Je vous demanderai bien une entrevue, mais je devine que nos contemporains vous harcèlent déjà de leurs difficultés. Bien à vous - Montherlant"Translation:"My dear André, For two reasons, I send you these papers, one summarizing the concrete facts, the other one for the `intellectuals`. I wish there was a counterpart to the evil that you heard (.) in your environment; and it is also about you, on p. 25 of the big memory. And I say again here that I said incidentally in this interview about you (.) was interpreted maliciously by the interviewer. That's why I wanted so much that corrected proofs were taken into account, which was not.In recent days, a judicial investigation is under way against me, for alleged collaboration.
