The son of Monte Cristo Vol. II explores the far-reaching impact of revenge and the complex search for identity against a backdrop of wealth and hidden motives. The novel examines the weight of the past as individuals attempt to reconcile with choices made by those before them. Through layered relationships, it reflects on the fragility of reputation in a world where power and deceit shape destinies. Ambition and betrayal are interwoven as figures seek control over their fates, often at great personal cost. The narrative highlights the tension between public honor and private shame, with secrets threatening to unravel carefully constructed lives. It considers how familial bonds can both protect and endanger, particularly when linked to forgotten sins and buried truths. The work delves into moral conflicts where justice and vengeance blur, raising questions about redemption and the price of reclaiming what was lost. The story's intricate setting magnifies these struggles, painting a vivid portrait of a society teetering on the edge of exposure and collapse.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor
Jules Lermina was a French novelist, journalist, and political activist born on 27 March 1839 in Paris, France. He began his career as a journalist in 1859 and became aligned with the socialists, a position that led to several years of imprisonment. His political dedication earned him the support of Victor Hugo, who admired his commitment to social causes. Lermina published his first novels under the pseudonym William Cobb, marking the start of a diverse literary career. His works included novels, essays, and journalistic writings that reflected his views on justice, human rights, and the struggles of society. Throughout his life, he balanced his literary pursuits with political activism, using his writing as a means to advocate for change and highlight social issues. He passed away on 23 June 1915 in Paris, France, at the age of 76, leaving behind a significant contribution to both literature and political thought. He was survived by his child, Juliette Lermina-Flandre, who carried forward his name.
