Artikelbeschreibung des Verkäufers
Neuware - Deals with the main themes in Mihaly Makkai's research career: traditional model theory, categorical model theory and logics, and higher-dimensional category theory. Included are both research papers and survey papers, giving useful material for experts and students in these fields. Particularly valuable are papers that show how the techniques and understanding in one field can be productively applied to another.

Colleagues and former students gathered in Montreal in June 2000 to honor the work of Hungarian-born Canadian mathematician Makkai on his 70th birthday. The 18 papers here, selected from the presentations, explore areas that he has contributed to or in some cases introduced. The topics include the number of countable models in categories of sheaves, the dialectica monad and its cousins, the Lorentz category in special relativity, indexed Lawvere theories for local state, a derivation of Einstein's vacuum field equations, and an adventure into Hungarian word order with cyclic pregoups. No index is provided. Annotation ©2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
