The book is emphatically not autobiographical, though inevitably the story is informed by the author’s long and very active life. It takes the reader across time and space in the companionship of women and men dedicated to achievement. The book is about people who use their native talent, effort, and energy to succeed. It is a story of a search deeper than our existential values. We follow the characters as they struggle to identify the deeper values at the core of their beings. The common, flimsy fancies of feelings carelessly labeled love are exposed and contrasted in the lives and experiences of these authentic characters. Without vainglory, fame, or kudos, but through integrity and faith in their deepest beliefs, their achievements are to be enjoyed in a calm crescendo of fulfilling, loving lives.
