Microleakage remains the most important factor influencing the long-term success of restorative procedures in Conservative Dentistry and Success and Failure of Root Canal Therapy. It refers to the clinically undetectable passage of bacteria, fluids, ions and molecules through microscopic gaps at the tooth-restoration interface or within the root canal system. Despite major advancements in restorative materials, adhesive systems and obturation techniques, complete elimination of microleakage has not yet been achieved due to the complex nature of tooth structure, material behavior, operator technique and continuous thermal and mechanical stresses in the oral environment.
