A viciously mauled puppy and a dead colleague plunges veterinarian Darby Dratton into danger. Will the new man in her life arrive with his elite fighting friends in time to help her take down a ruthless backwoods criminal organization?

On a beautiful Sunday morning, veterinarian Darby Dratton is tending her garden when a sheriff's patrol car screeches into her driveway, bringing her a badly mauled dachshund puppy. After a brief exam, she suspects the puppy was injured in an illegal dogfight and left for dead.

Darby's heard rumors that her idyllic little seaside Virginia town harbors an underground puppy mill operation, and now she fears the brutal blood sport of dogfighting is also operating nearby, so she calls on the new man in her life, Llewelyn Brody, who rescued her from kidnapping six months ago. He's been slowly wooing her with his charms and good home cooking, wanting more than a fleeting affair with the widowed mom and her young daughter, Brianna.

The stakes couldn't be higher for Darby, whose values have placed her and Brianna, in the crosshairs of a man who will stop at nothing to keep the money flowing from his secret empire. How can she be true to her oath as a veterinarian while protecting her child from harm? Will her efforts be enough to save the fur babies from further harm?
