4to. 27.5cm, second edition, for private circulation, 111p., chine applique lithography frontis portrait, 2 one colour tinted litho plates, (with tissue guards), appendix, in the original diamond grain blind decorated blue cloth, gilt border and crest on the upper cover, plain spine, a.e.g., former owner's heraldic bookplate, some slight wear at the edges, very good to fine copy (194.sc). - A very scarce biography of a Scottish officer who died at the Battle of Quatre Bras in 1815 while leading his Regiment, the Gordon Highlanders. John Cameron (1771-1815) joined the 92nd Regiment on its formation in 1794 and served in Corsica, Gibralter, Ireland(1798), the Nile and Walcheren Expeditions, and Peninsular War. An appendix lists the officers of the Gordon Highlanders on the formation of the Regiment in 1794 along with a partial list of other ranks (taken from Colonel Cameron's pocket-book). The lithographic portrait shows Colonel Cameron as of 1815 in the full-dress of his Regiment and wearing his awards.
