Artikelbeschreibung vom Verkäufer

Matrix 36: A Review for Printers & Bibliophiles, John and Rosalind Randle (Eds.) â€" First Edition Publication: Risbury, Herefordshire, The Whittington Press, 2020 Formatting: 4to, pp. [vi], 192, [vi]. Condition Report: Fine. The stiff paper wrappers are immaculate and bright, with crisp, unbumped corners and no discernible shelf-wear to the extremities. The binding remains entirely solid and tight, presenting as strictly unread. The French flap wrapper featuring the Eames House linocut is similarly pristine, entirely free of rubbing, fading, or edge-creasing. Internally, the mould-made papers and various tipped-in inserts remain perfectly fresh, bright, and free of any foxing, handling marks, or inscriptions, retaining an exceptional 'as new' appearance throughout. Catalogue Note: This is the deeply poignant thirty-sixth and final issue of Matrix, concluding an unbroken forty-year run of the world's pre-eminent typographical journal. The edition was strictly limited to 720 copies, with this being one of the 660 standard copies bound in stiff covers, enclosed in a printed wrapper featuring a striking linocut of the Eames House by Hannah Cousins. Masterfully typeset in hot metal on the Whittington's Monotype keyboards and printed on a variety of fine mould-made papers, including Matrix Laid, Zerkall, and Bugra Bütten, it showcases the press's uncompromising dedication to the physical book. Profusely illustrated, the volume is packed with the eclectic tip-ins, fold-outs, wood-engravings, and typography specimens that made the journal famous. This copy notably retains its loose ephemeral inserts, including the prospectuses for Pages from Presses II and the Index to Matrix 1-36. As the concluding chapter of the Whittington Press's flagship publication, this volume is exceptionally scarce on the open market. The concluding issue of Matrix, the legendary annual review for printers and bibliophiles, marking the end of a remarkable four-decade era by John and Rosalind Randle at the Whittington Press. This lavishly produced final volume is a celebration of the private press movement, letterpress printing, and the book arts, featuring a stunning array of specially printed inserts, tipped-in illustrations, and articles by leading figures in typography. An essential and bittersweet capstone for collectors of fine press printing and those passionate about bibliographical reference and typographic history, encapsulating the unmatched craftsmanship that defined the Whittington Press.
