Inhaltsangabe
The book provides a general background in matrix, determinant and vector calculus, followed by some very important aspects in mathematics such as Dirac Delta Function, Analyticity, Orthogonality, Singularity, etc., along with `complex functions and series analysis` are considered very useful in mathematical physics. Important 'special functions' such as Hermite, Legendre, Laguerre, Chebyshev are also discussed in terms of their applications in quantum mechanics. Important 'integral transforms', such as Fourier, Laplace and Hilbert are also described with an inclination towards 'applications' for both undergraduate and postgraduate students in various branches of engineering as well as for readers in postgraduate studies in general and applied sciences. A chapter on Tensor Analysis is also included to briefly introduce the subject. This is a book where the technologist meets the mathematicians.
Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor
Dr. R.K. Bera, now a Professor and Head of Mathematics at the famous Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata, obtained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Calcutta University. He held important positions in Mathematics in various institutes and colleges including B.E. College and NITTER for a long time. He has been invited several times to present papers and also to chair technical sessions on linear and non-linear elasticity in India and in many countries abroad. He is known to be a renowned teacher and his research activities on `continuum mechanics and differential calculus` are very well known. Dr. A.K. Bandyopadhyay, now a Professor at the Govt. College of Engineering & Ceramic Technology, Kolkata, has a long association with nano materials and related subjects for over 25 years both in India and in the international arena. After obtaining B.Tech. in Ceramics from Calcutta University in 1971 and M.Tech. in Metallurgy from I.I.T., Kanpur, in 1974, he did his Ph.D. from Sheffield University, U.K., in 1977 on Amorphous Materials. After a post-doctoral work on Solid State Battery Systems at Sussex University (UK), he worked as a scientist in CNRS Materials Science Laboratory at Montpellier for six years in collaboration with various renowned laboratories in Europe and USA. After working with various multinational companies and gaining useful industrial experience, he has again come back to teaching and research on various aspects of nano technology including theoretical research on nano ferroelectrics and photonic materials during the last six years with an active collaboration with some universities in the USA. He has more than 50 publications in international journals and he teaches Quantum Mechanics, Solid-state Physics and Glass Science at the moment. Dr. P.C. Ray, now a Reader in Mathematics at Govt. College of Engineering & Leather Technology, Kolkata, obtained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Calcutta University. His Ph.D. work on non-linear fluid dynamics at I.S.I. (Kolkata) got international acclaim. His present research interests are based on solar energy spectrum analysis has created a milestone in astrophysics. He has also doing an extensive work non-linear dynamics in ferroelectric systems, as well as on mechanical systems with non-linear vibrations in aeronautics.
