""Mathematical Contributions To The Theory Of Evolution: On Further Methods Of Determining Correlation"" is a book written by Karl Pearson and published in 1907. The book is a part of Pearson's extensive work on the application of mathematical methods to the study of evolution. In this book, Pearson discusses the concept of correlation and its importance in evolutionary studies. He proposes new methods for determining correlation, including the use of regression analysis and the coefficient of correlation. The book also includes a detailed discussion of the statistical methods used in evolutionary studies, including the use of standard deviation and the normal distribution. Overall, ""Mathematical Contributions To The Theory Of Evolution"" is an important work in the history of evolutionary theory, as it helped to establish the use of statistical methods in the field and contributed to the development of modern evolutionary biology. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.

London, Harrison and Sons, 1898. 8vo. Later full blue buckram. Spine with gilt lettering. In: "Proceedings of the Royal Society of London", Vol. LXII. VIII,458 pp. a. 6 plates. Pearson's paper: pp. 386-417. First appearance of this importent paper in which Pearson, expressed what he christened "Galton?s Law of Ancestral Heredity" in the form of a multiple regression equation of offspring on midparental ancestry. It is a statistical formulation of Galton?s law in the form of a multiple regression of offspring on "midparental" ancestry, with deductions therefrom of theoretical values for various regression and correlation coefficients between kin, and comparisons of such theoretical values with values derived from observational material. (DSB).The title "Contributions to the Mathematical Theory of Evolution" or "Mathematical Contributions. . ." was used as the general title of 17 memoirs, numbered II through XIX, published in the Philosophical Transactions or as Drapers? Company Research Memoirs, and of 8 unnumbered papers published in the Proceedings of he Royal Society "Mathematical" became and remained the initial word from III(1896)on. Artikel-Nr. 48323

Proc. roy. Soc., 54. (1893) - London, Harrison and Sons, 1893, 8°, VII, 489, 25 pp., 4 Taf., Leinenband der Zeit; St.a.Tit. First annoucement of the "Mathematical Theory of Evolution", communicated by Prof. Henrici, F.R.S., Oct. 18, 1893" for Pearson. Karl Pearson FRS (1857-1936) established the discipline of mathematical statistics. Through Weldon and Galton's book, Pearson became interested in developing mathematical methods for studying the processes of heredity and evolution. From 1893 to 1912 he wrote 18 papers entitled Mathematical Contributions to the Theory of Evolution which contain his most valuable work. These papers contain contributions to regression analysis, the correlation coefficient and includes the chi-square test of statistical significance (1900). His chi-square test was produced in an attempt to remove the normal distribution from its central position. Artikel-Nr. 39531

Erste Ausgabe der dritten aus einer Reihe von 17 Veröffentlichungen. - "These lectures mark the beginning of a new epoch in statistical theory and practice. In retrospect, it is clear that Pearson's contributions during this period firmly established statistics as a discipline in its own right. In order to place the whole of Pearson's work in proper perspective, it will be helpful to examine his contributions to distinct areas of theory and practice. Consider, for example, his 'method of moments' and his system of wonderfully diverse frequency curves. Pearson's aim in developing the method of moments was to provide a general method for determining the values of the parameters of a frequency distribution of some particular from selected to describe a given set of observational or experimental data. This is clear from his basic exposition of the subject in the first (1894) of his series of memoirs entitled 'Contributions to the Mathematical Theory of Evolution'" (DSB). - Sauber und gut erhalten. - DSB 10, 447.
