Miracles lie at the heart of the Christian religion and have been represented in Christian art from an early date. Marvellous to Behold focuses on the illustrations of miracles in illuminated manuscripts as well as on retelling the miracle tales. Deirdre Jackson selects illustrations from various sources, and her accompanying text explains the significance of their inclusion in particular texts.
This volume also features comparisons of illustrations of the same miracle which appear in books of different religions. The attractive spread-by-spread design, with each spread devoted to a particular miracle, will have great appeal for readers and anyone interested in medieval life and art.
