Artikelbeschreibung des Verkäufers

Oversized softcover. Toned paper covers with a light blue label and black lettering to the front cover. Dated 1912 on title page. 188 pages, followed by 16 pages of black and white and color plates. Good condition. Binding is snug and strong. Some bending to the foot of the front cover. Covers heavily toned, with light wear around the edges. The spine has the title and author handwritten in ink. Pages lightly foxed and toned, primarily to the edges. Overall good condition. This book is from the collection of Thomas Lovejoy. Dr. Lovejoy was an influential ecologist, field biologist, and activist; former head of the Amazon Biodiversity Center, World Wildlife Fund, and Advisor to the United Nations and Smithsonian Institution. He is credited with introducing the term 'biological diversity' to the main stream environmental movement. In addition, he was a passionate collector of books on the natural world. He died in 2021 and we are very excited to present a selection of his books. Please browse the entire catalog here on ABE or contact us for instructions on how to get to it. Lovejoy's name is not in this book, but the handwritten title on the spine may well be his addition. This book comes with a card stating provenance, with a picture of Lovejoy. This is an oversized book- extra shipping may be required for international or priority shipping. Please email with questions or to see any photos.…

Shopbeschreibung

We're at 805 Caroline Street, in the heart of Fredericksburg's historic district. Open Monday to Saturday 10-6; and Sunday 12-5. In warmer months we stay open until 9 most nights, but you might want to call ahead. (540) 373-6148 Shipping rates are for Media Mail, in a padded envelope - WE DO NOT ADD TRACKING UNLESS THE CUSTOMER REQUESTS IT AND PAYS FOR IT - we have been selling books online for more than 20 years & find that the USPO delivers 99.99% of packages quickly and safely, without any need for a tracking number. We trust them & we hope you will too. If you need tracking, please consider PRIORITY SHIPPING. We ship orders valued at more than $50 in a box, at no additional charge. Priority mailing is for a Flat-Rate envelope, with tracking included. If the book does not fit into a flat rate envelope, we will likely need to request extra shipping costs from you, in order to put it in a box. We only charge the actual amount of shipping, so we hope you'll understand that it's just a matter of getting the book to you without taking a loss on it -- shipping is a service we happily offer without a 'handling' charge.... but we can't afford to charge you less than the cost of the stamps!…
