The healthy body section is for periodic checks on fitness; self-diagnosis charts are to find possible causes and what to do; and the major part of the book is an explanation of all diseases and disorders. There are also sections on accidents, caring for the sick and a drug index. In the many new articles, topics discussed include organ transplants, post-viral fatigue operations for short sight and seasonal affective disorder. Others, including those on AIDS, genetic counselling, heart disease and toxic shock syndrome, have been revised.
