Large 8vo., pp: xiii,[1]-454, oval portrait frontispiece, tissue guarded, & 11 plates, occasional browning and spotting to prelims & edges, gift inscription to front endpaper, in original blue cloth with gilt crest to front cover, spine gilt lettered, fore edge of front board sunned & faded, remains of dustwrapper inserted to rear, otherwise sound & very good. "Sir Woodbine Parish, sometime Secretary to Lord Castlereagh; Charge D'Affaires and Minister Plenipotentiary to the Provinces of the River Plate, being the first agent sent by Great Britain to recognize the Independence of the Argentine Republic and to establish Diplomatic relations between the two countries; Minister Plenipotentiary in Naples". He was a fellow of the Royal Society, Geological Society and Royal Geographical Society, & corresponded with Charles Darwin.
