A very neat people's edition of this biography of the Duke of Wellington. People's edition. Revised. With portrait frontispiece. A biography of Arthur Wellesley, First Duke of Wellington, who was an Anglo-Irish soldier and Tory statesman and acted as one of the leading military and political figures of 19th-century Britain, serving twice as prime minister. He is among the commanders who won and ended the Napoleonic Wars when the Seventh Coalition defeated Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. Written by George Gleig, a Scottish solider, military writer, and priest. Bound by Bickers & Son, London. In the original brown calf with marbled edging, endpapers and pastedowns. Externally, smart with light shelf wear and rubbing to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with light spotting to the first and last few pages.
