Seabiscuit was a nation's treasure. The 1920s may have been the Golden Age of Sports with Babe Ruth and Jack Dempsey among others dominating the scene but during the mid to late 1930s, one sports legend gave resolve and enjoyment to a nation emerging from the Great Depression. Seabiscuit was that sporting icon. The story of Seabiscuit as told so eloquently by Laura Hillenbrand has dominated the book scene for two years. Seabiscuit, Charles and Marcela Howard, Tom Smith, Red Pollard, and George Woolf haveonce again become a part of our national conscience. Now comes another gift. In 1975, Barbara Howard received from her great aunt, Marcela Howard, a box of letters written to Seabiscuit and his owner Charles Howard. Some were letters of congratulations, a suggested name for a foal, a birthday, or a valentine.
