James Penner completed his first degree in genetics (BSc UWO) before continuing his academic studies in law and legal philosophy (LLB Toronto, Dphil Oxon). He has a strong reputation in this field and has taught trusts in the UK, Canada, the Bahamas, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia.


J E Penner is Professor of Property Law at University College London. His first degree was in genetics (BSc UWO) and he continued his academic studies in law and legal philosophy (LLB Toronto, DPhil Oxon). He is the author of The Idea of Property in Law (1997) as well as a number of articles, and editor, with David Schiff and Richard Nobles, of Introduction to Jurisprudence and Legal Theory: Commentary and Materials (2002). He has taught trusts law in England, Canada, the Bahamas, Trinidad, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, and Australia
