I believe that King Arthur was the most honorable, gentle Knight who ever lived in all the world. And those who were his fellows of the Round Table-taking him as their looking-glass of chivalry-made, altogether, such a company of noble knights that it is hardly to be supposed that their like will ever be seen again in this world. Wherefore it is that I have had such extraordinary pleasure in beholding how those famous knights behaved whenever circumstances called upon them to perform their endeavor.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor
Howard Pyle was an American illustrator, author, and teacher whose work helped define the visual and literary style of classic adventure storytelling in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Born in 1853, he became widely known for his illustrated books for young readers, including The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood, Otto of the Silver Hand, and his Arthurian volumes. Pyle also trained a generation of important illustrators and was a major influence on the golden age of American illustration. His books remain admired for their narrative energy, moral clarity, and distinctive artistic imagination.
