The course examines the experience of American society this century, using the insights and analytic tools of politics, geography, sociology, history, economics and literature to develop both a complex portrait and an understanding of the most powerful nation in the world. This volume contains some of the key documents of American history, presenting a comprehensive portrait of the US political, economic and cultural experience. The collection concentrates on 20th-century documents, but also includes important earlier material. Documents featured include inaugural addresses, foreign policy papers and speeches, civil rights documents and economic statistics and census data.
