Über diesen Titel

Last year was declared the "European Year against racism". The fact that such a declaration was thought necessary points to general recognition that intolerance of ethnic communities and racial disadvantage is a common feature of many societies with significant minority populations. This volume explores the economic consequences of racial disadvantage and non-assimilation. Topics covered include models of discrimination, immigration and the international context, unemployment and earnings disadvantage. While the primary focus is on Britain, the techniques are applicable to other countries where appropriate data sources are available. The book aims to show the distinctive contribution that economists can make to the understanding of this important social issue. It combines a useful mixture of theory and applied statistical techniques, and will be of interest to a wide audience including policy analysts and researchers as well as economists.
