Random signals and noise are present in several engineering systems. They may be encountered as a useful signal, such as in audio and video equipment, or they may be unwanted signals that disturb the desired signals. These unwanted signals are often described as 2018noise` or 2018interference`. Signal processing techniques allow engineers to distinguish between desired signals and noise.
