Random signals and noise are present in several engineering systems. They may be encountered as a useful signal, such as in audio and video equipment, or they may be unwanted signals that disturb the desired signals. These unwanted signals are often described as 2018noise` or 2018interference`. Signal processing techniques allow engineers to distinguish between desired signals and noise. The random time-varying character of signals is usually difficult to describe and this is also true for associated signal processing activities such as filtering. In all cases a description of the signal is required in order to be able to analyze its impact on the performance of the system under consideration. Preface. 1 Introduction. ? Buchbeschreibung "This book presents a clear introduction to the concept of stochastic processes and its applications to random signals and noise. It has on one hand a firm mathematical foundation for senior undergraduates and graduates, and on the other hand it introduces practical subjects and applications that practicing engineers find useful. The book is written by an electrical engineer, and the examples are taken from that discipline. It considers the basic definitions of probability density functions and describes stochastic processes in the frequency domain. The book illustrates theoretical concepts with practical examples, covering detection and optimal filtering. Artikel-Nr. WILEY-9788126521630
