A baby baboon. A leopard cub. A friendship the grown-ups cannot understand.

Book 4: The Baboons

Casper is getting used to sleeping in trees when a baby baboon goes missing. Evelyn, who has one arm, has wandered away after being left out of the others’ games.

When the troop finds her, she is singing a lullaby to a leopard cub. To the babies, it is a friendship. To their families, it is unthinkable.

With baboons gathering on one side and leopard mothers on the other, a tender moment threatens to become a terrible fight. Casper is only a small city cat. Can she help them see past an old fear before somebody gets hurt?

A funny and moving adventure about belonging, empathy and the courage to question prejudice—even when everyone around you thinks they know best.

An adventure to share and grow with

For early chapter readers aged 5–10, these stories are made for growing independence and for reading aloud with a parent or grandparent. Share Casper’s mishaps, worry with her when things go wrong, and cheer her on as she finds her courage. There is room for laughter, a few tears and the kind of conversation that continues after the book is closed.

• Beautiful full-colour illustrations bring Casper and her animal companions to life.
• Wildlife fact sections feed curious minds and a growing interest in Africa’s animals and their habitats.
• Kindness, resilience and problem-solving emerge through the adventure, giving families gentle ways to talk about real feelings and choices.
