Master potter Robert Fournier has created a clearly organized dictionary of pottery forms from all nations and all time periods that will stand as a source of instruction and inspiration to craftsmen everywhere. Fournier supplements the hundreds of illuminating textual entries with over 800 black and white photographs, line drawings, and silhouettes. There is a rich variety of glaze and decoration in the photographs, but the choice has been made primarily to illustrate form and volume. The prime objective of this book is to be a source of ideas, inspiration, and interest to the craftsman. In the making of it, however, in the fascination of discovering ever-widening applications of the invention and genius of the potter, the scope has widened and has resulted in a dictionary that will be of use to a larger public, to museums and collectors, and to those to whom a pot is an object of contemplation and enjoyment, regardless of its time or place of origin.
