This mathematics book is written and designed to prepare students for ICSE mathematics exams. The main objective in writing this text is to make the study of mathematics an engaging and a positive experience for students by providing ample practice through a problem-solving pedagogy.
The book is written in strict adherence to ICSE 2021 syllabus and is useful for students appearing for ICSE exams.

Being an ICSE student herself over 25 years ago, Mrs. Mahajan, the author of the book and expert mathematician, observed the need for a new book on ICSE Mathematics, which stemmed due to lack of sufficient practice problems in other popular textbooks focussed on ICSE mathematics curriculum. This refreshing new text provides more problem-solving strategies, more problem-solving guides, and one of the most comprehensive sets of ICSE mathematics questions.
The goal of the book is to help students become a mathematical thinker by understanding nuanced mathematical concepts that will form a basis for logical and quantitative decision-making. Thus, the author has strived to utilize materials that
- help students learn and enjoy mathematics,
- relate mathematics to real world matters around students ranging from from GST to stock markets,
- develop exhaustive problem-solving skills that lead success in mathematics,
and- promote learning and success in ICSE mathematics.
Because this text contains exhaustive ICSE problem sets with nearly 100 questions on each topic, it is split in four volumes. Each volume is a complete package, which allows some chapters to be skipped or the order of presentation to be changed.
Chapter 1, Goods and Services Tax, discusses the transformation of sales tax and value-added tax to the recently implemented GST regime and its inclusion in ICSE curriculum. Details of input tax credit and concepts of CGST, SGST and IGST are discussed along with numerous practice problems.
Chapter 2, Recurring Deposits, examines detailed calculations related to a recurring deposit account in a bank from a customer’s perspective. The questions focus on all key variables - the monthly instalment, the annual interest rate and the maturity period.
Chapter 3, Shares and Dividends, highlights the difference between Nominal Value and Market Value of a share, explains the concept of distributed profits by the company to its shareholders in the form of dividends, and provides a framework to analyse the total return of an investment in shares comprising dividend income and profit on sale of shares.
The book's website www.icsemaths.org has supplementary material to help ICSE students ace their ICSE mathematics examination.
