Sandy Gingras has created a genre all her own. Is it new age? Is it spirituality? Is it self-help or inspiration? Whatever you call it, her mix of prose, poetry, and illustrations is enormously popular. The author-illustrator always delights and surprises readers with her wit, her keen observations, with layers of reflection and a depth of feeling in her deceptively simple series of books. Her new title, In a House by the Sea, is inspired by the beach house a house that may only be a metaphor. It is about emotion and feeling more than place, mood and memory more than the beach. The prose-poem How to Build a Castle and the essay Navigating are thoughtful reflections about discovery and acceptance, as is Change a wind that blows through lives. Storm and You and Me in a House by the Sea are emotionally rich love letters. Outside Shower delights in the freedom and wildness of this quintessential summer beach experience. And the wit and humor in illustrated vignettes like Flip-Flop Moods, Beach Hats, Sunsets, or Moods will make the reader smile while distilling life s small moments into their pure essence.Living in the moment, finding poignant beauty in front of one s own eyes, becoming aware of the moods and feelings that make life whole and beautiful these are some of the gentle messages shared in In a House by the Sea.Sandy Gingras is the author-illustrator of a series of delightful gift books, including How to Live at the Beach and five other titles. Her books have a literate charm, are witty and whimsical, philosophical and spiritual, and infused with heartache and longing. Her poetic writing combines with sweet illustrations to transcend the immediate subject, touching readers on many different levels. She mixes a metaphysical search for happiness, beauty and truth with an acknowledgement of melancholy and loss; ultimately the message is uplifting, joyful, and inspiring.
