Hope Lives in a Garden is a small book about big ideas. Written from the perspective of a stuffed monkey named Nutmeg, the book explores the power of whimsy and gratitude in healing. As Nutmeg accompanies Helen on her journey with cancer, they both learn from and listen to one another. They challenge the conventional metaphor of fighting cancer, cancer as a battle. They explore and discover a holistic approach through the metaphor of a garden. Hope Lives in a Garden is a book for people living with cancer, their caregivers and loved ones, professionals and anyone interested in healing. Nutmeg’s story is one for all ages, for anyone with—or without—a garden. All proceeds from sales of Hope Lives in a Garden will be directed to support for people living with cancer and to research into its causes and cure.

Indefatigable optimist Helen Worley lives near a pond in the small city of Blaine, WA just south of the US/Canada border, and an hour away from her hometown of Vancouver, BC. In her work Helen spent many hours with cancer patients; she cared for her first husband during his three bouts of the disease, nursing him at home during his last days; she then faced two separate cancer diagnoses herself. Her insights come from deep personal experience. Helen shares her enthusiasm for life in her writing and photographs, being constantly on the alert for the extraordinary in the ordinary.
