Whellan, James Joseph Sheahan and others describe the history of York and its surrounding landscape.Whellan, a publisher and bookseller based in Beverley, was known for compiling meticulous directories and histories of various towns in Yorkshire and the North of England.This work discusses the historical development and expansion of York, from its Roman origins to its time under the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings. He also examines its ecclesiastical history, and provides biographies of significant individuals and families from the city.With the inscription of Douglas Brown to title page heads. In half calf bindings, with marbled paper covered boards. Rubbing to back strip head and tail and joints. Front hinge of volume I strained, but firmly held. Volume II boards starting, and somewhat tenderly held. Internally, volume I firmly bound, but with three gatherings of volume II working loose, and with volume II title page detached but loosely inserted. Inscriptions to title page heads. Small closed tears to fore edge of volume II title page. Pages bright and generally clean, with the odd handling mark. Good. book. Artikel-Nr. 956F26
