This book is to introduce a variant of theory about hinduism for the present contex and to be aware of by the present generation, the factors leading to its "origin formation and philosophy in the historical perspective. The belief that an inherent reason under the Indian context, the modern age especially the generation who are scientifically conscious and those who are philosophically aware of the religious factors leading to the development of human society and the definition of Hinduism. The author describes the process of evolution under the social factor enabled further the formation of the unified, group for attaining higher consciousness and the inherent human society ascending to it. The caste Classification, the dignity of religion and religious, cultural and traditional beliefs are differ and contrary to each other. But the human nature is invariably bound by reasons. It may perhaps true to claim that the origin of religion and the reason for its developments could not be ascertained from the historical point of view. But there are certain indications which support our belief. The Hindu religion perhaps is only by the advent of other religion and their spreading in India. The controvercies will not end. The debate is bound to evoke further thoughts relating to the formation of Hinduism and its uncertain future. Therefore, this book bears the views and necessities existed in those days when it was written in its historical perspective. The author finds the hindu society and its tradition should not mean as such a religious tenet. But a social philosophy which is relevent even today. A re-print of this is to reflect the basic factors of Hindu religion in the present context. The book further enlightens this theory for a different reason which is justified the cover to cover reading of this book. Chap. I : DEFINITION OF A" RELIGION" : 1. The word religion is European and conveys an entirely European conception 2. A recapitulation of the popular ideas proposed in order to get the current meaning of the word 3. According to the popular mind a " religion " should give ideas regarding the unknown things like God and admonitions regarding conduct 4. It should possess authoritative scriptures, and rituals 5. It should receive supreme authority, and should create strong sentiment among followers 6. Religion should form or determine the social group 7. Religion necessary to attain heaven or some kind of eternal bliss 8. Restatement of the above essentials in a formal definition 9. The definition not useful in general social science, but is useful in studying particular (European) development 10. This complex meaning of the word " religion " is due to the events in the European history itself. For the same reason the word cannot be translated in the non-European languages 11. Religion is akin to " sampradaya "or" theophratry," which mean a tribe based on theological doctrine or worship, and therefore 12. It should be distinguished from the traditions of a natural tribe Chap. II : HINDU TERMINOLOGY : 1. Analysis of phenomena into more elementary concept necessary 2. Definitions of Dharma, Marga, Sadhana, Mata, Sampradaya and Sadhya 3. Hindu theory of Dharma 4. Dharma differs according to class, condition and other circumstances 5. Dharma towards family (Kula) and tribe (Jati) 6. Knowledge of Dharma still incomplete, for Dharma is infinite and eternal 7. Oneness of Dharma 8. Hindu interpretation of Christian religion and its analysis into Khristi-dharma, and Khrista-marga, etc. 9. "Margas" or paths described, classified and explained 10. Hindu idea regarding the peculiar dharma of the Christians 11. "Mata," or doctrine, explained, with special reference to the Christian doctrine 12.
