Inhaltsangabe: The "Country Series" aims to combine photographs with light, but authoritative commentary on the chosen themes, which cover art, architecture, travel, local history, the countryside, topography, gardens and rural life. This paperback edition focuses on one of the most beautiful areas of unspoiled landscape in Europe. Taking in the magical grandeur of the mountains of Assynt, the enigmatic ancient stones of Brodgar and Stenness on the Orkney Islands, the Well of the Dead on Culloden Moor and the "black houses" and cottages of the highlands, this book presents a journey, not only of dramatic scenic splendour, but also of great historical and social interest.
About the Author: S Angus Macdonald is a Senior Lecture in the Department of Architecture at Edinburgh University and is the author of two books on architectural structures. Patricia Macdonald's photographs have been exhibited internationally and several books have been published of her work, including Shadow of Heaven: Scotland from Above. Together, the Macdonalds have worked on a variety of projects concerned with the Scottish landscape and are co-authors of Above Edinburgh and South-East Scotland and Granite and Green: Above North-East Scotland. They live in Musselburgh, East Lothian.
