I left worship ministry with a fractured heart, a shattered engagement, and a silence in
my soul I couldn’t pray through.
Now I’m back in the coastal town I ran from, waking up to gulls instead of guilt, sea air instead of
spotlights. Lila’s cottage feels like a mercy. The ocean still knows how to breathe—even when I
forget.
I didn’t come back for people. I definitely didn’t come back to sing.
But then there's him—Jonas. The steady, soft-spoken youth director with kind eyes and a
stubborn streak. He’s not flashy. Not part of my past. And somehow, that makes him harder to
ignore.
One open mic night.
One shared worship set.
One community project that keeps throwing us together.
And suddenly, I’m caught between the life I lost and the one I never dared imagine.
But when my past resurfaces—with all its judgment and spotlighted shame—I have to
decide if I’m done with grace, or just finally ready to receive it.
