An elderly house, neurotic hens, nefarious zucchini, and a willful cat.

In this collection of short essays, fantasy author Sheila Gilluly takes us through the seasonal chores and delights of her small homestead on the coast of Maine. We learn:

• the seduction of seed catalogues in January
• how chickadees survive temperatures of -20 degrees
• what the hens have been watching on the television in the coop
• the nutritional benefits of growing your own organic fruits and vegetables
• how to can spaghetti sauce, tap a maple tree, and make the best blueberry jam ever
• why having a family of skunks move in with you may not be a bad thing
• why a stubborn Yankee woman who tackles a roof job by herself may need to ask Santa for a special favor

By turns informative, lyrical, and laugh-ou-loud funny, the book invites us to spend some time at Two Dits Farm, where everything--including the owner--is just about a Half A Bubble Off Plumb.
