For many years, Dr. Nichols was a visiting Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Biology at Harvard Medical School and the Chief of Pelvic Surgery, Vincent Memorial Gynecologic Service, Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Dr. Nichols returned to full time at Brown University and Women& Infants Hospital in January 1998. He is a fellow and member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Pelvic Surgeons, and a number of other professional organizations. He is a noted proponent of the vaginal approach to surgery and isalso known for his effective use of sacrospinous fixation in operative repair of the prolapsed vagina. His many contributions to the scientific literature include eight motion-picture films as well as a number of papers on sacrospinous fixation. Dr. Nichols is the author of Vaginal Surgery, 4e, 1996, published by Waverly and Reoperative Gynecologic and Obstetric Surgery, 2e, 1997, published by Mosby.
Dr. Clarke-Pearson is also a fellow and member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, The AmericanCollege of Surgeons, the Society of Pelvic Surgeons and other professional organizations. He is currently the chairman of the Committee on Gynecologic Oncology Practice. He is well known by his colleagues and is a frequent speakerat national and regional meetings and has published many articles and book chapters.
