Artikelbeschreibung des Verkäufers

Hardcover, with dust jacket. Bound in dark blue cloth over boards with white lettering to the spine. White dust jacket with illustrations of birds and purple and black lettering. Dated 1978 on copyright page. No date on title page. 424 pages. 53 color and black and white plates. Good condition. Binding is strong and square. Some light rubbing to the cloth at the edges of the boards. Pages are lightly toned, with some foxing to the edges. No marks or writing to be found. Dust jacket is lightly toned, with some shelf wear. No tears or creasing. A small label at the foot of the spine, with the number 10,614 written on it. We believe this is Tom Lovejoy's personal library inventory number. There is a signature on the half-title page. The names are hard to read, one of them appears to be from a "Billy". This could be signed by the author(s), but we aren't certain. "To Tom Lovejoy, with kindest regards and admiration- Billy and R[illegible] Feb. 10, 1979". This book is from the collection of Thomas Lovejoy. Dr. Lovejoy was an influential ecologist, field biologist, and activist; former head of the Amazon Biodiversity Center, World Wildlife Fund, and advisor to the United Nations and Smithsonian Institution. He is credited with introducing the term biological diversity to the mainstream environmental movement. In addition, he was a passionate collector of books on the natural world. He died in 2021 and we are very excited to present a selection of his books. Please browse the entire catalogue here on ABE or contact us for instructions on how to get to it. In warmer months we stay open until 9 most nights, but you might want to call ahead. (540) 373-6148 Shipping rates are for Media Mail, in a padded envelope - WE DO NOT ADD TRACKING UNLESS THE CUSTOMER REQUESTS IT AND PAYS FOR IT - we have been selling books online for more than 20 years & find that the USPO delivers 99.99% of packages quickly and safely, without any need for a tracking number. We trust them & we hope you will too. If you need tracking, please consider PRIORITY SHIPPING. We ship orders valued at more than $50 in a box, at no additional charge. Priority mailing is for a Flat-Rate envelope, with tracking included. If the book does not fit into a flat rate envelope, we will likely need to request extra shipping costs from you, in order to put it in a box. We only charge the actual amount of shipping, so we hope you'll understand that it's just a matter of getting the book to you without taking a loss on it -- shipping is a service we happily offer without a 'handling' charge.... but we can't afford to charge you less than the cost of the stamps!…
