Most plants selected for ground cover are by nature low-growing, rampant, spreading things, but the approach presented in this book extends to heathers, conifers, ferns, shrubs, grasses, fruit, vegetables - and even climbers, which will spread enthusiastically if they have nothing to climb up. Ground cover can be used for much more than the suppression of weeds - areas that are difficult to work, such as steep banks, or where little will grow, such as deep shade, can all benefit from a generous planting of the right thing. The author argues that solutions for any site can be found, with results that require little maintenance and are long-lasting and beautiful. A directory of over 1000 plants is included.
